SOUND OF SCIENCE is an immersive musical evening that celebrates the scientific wonders of Tesla’s universe and the connections between science and music. Whether you are a science fan or lover of extraordinary music experiences, the Sound of Science pushes the boundaries of a traditional music event. The concert features the Rites of Spring (RoS) ensemble, a group that embodies the spirit of new music culture and is dedicated to performing innovative, collaborative, and exciting works of living composers and contemporary works of composers from the recent past. You’ll hear new music being performed in a one-of-a-kind setting at Wardenclyffe, the last remaining laboratory of inventor Nikola Tesla. The historic grounds make a unique open-air theater with Tesla’s famous tower base as center stage and his laboratory as a backdrop. The evening starts at 7 pm with an interactive surround-sound experience on the octagonal tower base along with exhibits featuring singing Tesla coils, theremin, and the science of sound. At 8 pm the Rites of Spring ensemble will perform an electric music concert featuring new music by Kanasevich, Mazzoli, Clyne, Akiho, Rodriguez, Romitelli, and Little. Food, beverages, and specialty merchandise will be available for purchase.

Rites of Spring ensemble (R o S ensemble) is a collectively organized group of musicians dedicated to performing classical music and creating new artistic works at the highest level. Based on the East End of Long Island, the ensemble is committed to the idea that new music belongs in every community, and implements this mission through touring and outreach to connect with audiences and artists, focusing specifically on bringing music to locations out of the reach of many music organizations. Created by founder Paolo Bartolani, pianist and artistic director of Rites of Spring Music Festival, R o S Ensemble is dedicated to connecting communities across the East End of Long Island and the United States through the development and performance of music across the country. Our experience is extensive: from creating and performing all sorts of music in unconventional venues, to site specific projects that combine music, natural environment and history, to collaborating with like-minded artists, performers, and thinkers of all stripes, and to offering a platform for all whose work demands it. The ensemble is also actively engaging in educational activities geared toward inspiring the next generation of artists and performers through workshops, conversations, individual music lessons to engage participants in music making, community building, and creative producing.
