We are so excited to host for the second year a Piano Marathon in collaboration with the Music Department of Stony Brook University. This is an annual event featuring young professional pianists from Stony Brook University for a piano music program centered around a group of composers. The 2024 Piano Marathon will explore the repertoire of two composers, Joseph Haydn and Arnold Schoenberg, icons of the First and Second Viennese schools. We hope you enjoy the humor, clarity and distinctive sound worlds presented by this pairing. This rousing musical proposal presented by Rites of Spring Music Festival as the PREVIEW of the new season kicking off in May is the result of joint forces with the Department of Music at Stony Brook University. Heartfelt thanks go to Tina Dahl, wonderful pianist and chairman of the Department of Music and Gil Kalish, professor of piano, legendary pianist and major figure in American music making.
